Fortuna GPSmart to GPX data interchange


A GPSmart is a handheld GPS receiver made by Fortuna Electronic Corp.

Although it is able to upload/download data over its serial port, Fortuna have not provided any means of interchanging navigation data with any of the well-known PC-based GPS applications.

This web resource presents some details about the internal data structures used by the GPSmart, and makes available a pair of Windows console mode applications: SmartGPX, which is able to extract that data and log it in a text file which encoded using xml-markup compliant with the GPX schema; and GPXsmart which is able to extract the coordinates that it finds in an xml-encoded (GPX file format) text file and encode them for subsequent upload back into a GPSmart receiver.
